Ethnographic and Qualitative Research Conference Call

Please consider submitting a proposal for a paper presentation at the 30^th Annual Ethnographic & Qualitative Research Conference (EQRC). EQRC is sponsored this year by the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) College of Education.

The conference will be held on February 26-27, 2018 at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada with a special conference room rate of $59 per night (plus tax & fees).

The deadline for submitting a proposal is November 19^th and papers will undergo juried review on a rolling basis, with prompt notifications of acceptance/rejection so that presenters can make early and economical travel arrangements. All presented papers are eligible for submission to the Journal of Ethnographic & Qualitative Research (www.jeqr.org) and all submitted papers will be peer-reviewed for potential publication.

Sunday afternoon pre-conference workshops are offered regarding ethnographic-based action research and increasing publications in peer-reviewed journals. There is no additional cost for participation at pre-conference workshops. Happy New Year! It’s time to submit your abstract to the 87th Annual Southwestern Anthropological Association Conference. We invite the submission of your paper, poster film and/or session abstracts until February 15, 2016. The theme for the 2016 Conference is Sustainable Humanity: Learning from the Past and Planning for the Future. Come and share your work on April 22 and 23, 2016 at Humphreys Half Moon Bay Inn and Suites on Shelter Island in San Diego, California. The venue will provide us with a beautiful, tropical ambiance in which we can present, discuss, explore and learn from colleagues and friends.

She will be speaking to us about her latest book, “What the Rest Think of the West,” in which she allows us to see ourselves through the eyes of Eastern travelers’ over the millennia. As Nicholas Dirks says about the book, “ “To see ourselves as others see us” isn’t just a famous line from Robert Burns; it’s an urgent requirement for the global twenty-first century.” Frame shifting from ethnocentric Western perspectives is an essential part of moving to a more sustainable future locally, nationally and globally.

Convocatoria 2015 Call for Submissions

Tenth International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry (ICQI)

The Tenth International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry will take place May 21-24, 2014 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign .

The theme of this year’s congress is “Qualitative Inquiry and the Politics of Research.” The SIG in Qualitative Psychology will hold events in conjunction with the Congress with a focus on “critical and poststructural possibilities.” [See the conference website for this and other SIG activities and information.]

Early registration: December 1 Regular registration: March 15.
Paper submissions due: December 1 (but check website for possible extension).

The International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry (ICQI) will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2014. The 10th Congress will be built around the changes that have occurred in the field of qualitative inquiry in the decade since the Congress was launched as an alternative site for collaboration and discourse. The 2014 Congress will offer delegates an opportunity to assess the major changes that have taken place over the last decade. What might the Congress, and indeed the broader landscape of qualitative inquiry, look like in another decade? What should our mandate be for the next decade? What have we learned? Where do we go next?

Delegates are invited to submit proposals for panels and sessions that address these and other pressing questions concerning the politics of research (e.g., IRBs, grant funding, publishing, promotion and tenure, life in the corporate university, etc.). Delegates are also invited to address the events surrounding the 10th anniversary of the Congress itself, its history, and its future.

The 2014 Congress will offer scholars the opportunity to explore a decade of change, while foregrounding qualitative inquiry as a shared, global endeavor. Panels, workshops and sessions will take up the politics of research. Delegates will be able to form coalitions, to engage in debate on how qualitative research can be used to advance the causes of social justice, while addressing racial, ethnic, gender and environmental disparities in education, welfare and healthcare. Qualitative Research Resources

There are some amazing resources for qualitative researchers on the Internet.

Ron Chenail of Nova Southeastern University in Florida has maintained an informative and well managed online learning site for qualitative researchers for many years. For example, The Qualitative Report Community offers an impressive compilation of calls for papers, proposals and abstracts of interest to qualitative researchers.

Dr. Susan Hawes, a professor in the Clinical Psychology Department at Antioch University developed an impressive website for her graduate students. See the Online Qualitative Research Resources Home Page for a listing of Qualitative Research megasites, journals, writing guidelines, and links to QDA (qualitative data analysis) software information.

St. Louis University hosts a lengthy compilation of Qualitative Research Journals. The page hasn’t been updated in a couple of years, but as far as I know, all of the journals listed still accept qualitative research studies.

Qualitative research may, at times, seem like an exotic enterprise. But given all the rich resources available, and the wonderful work underway and already published, I think “we” are going to be around for quite some time to come! So — enjoy the lovely spring weather and be grateful for all the adventures you have had (and will have) as qualitative researchers. –EdProf
